Join the Nebraska Alliance for Conservation and Environmental Education for a full day professional development workshop exploring best practices and expanding our skills in environmental education and community engagement programs. This workshop will consist of training on two of the North America Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE)’s Guidelines for Excellence Series:

Guidelines of Excellence in Environmental Education Workshop Schedule
8:00 - 8:30: Coffee & Light Snacks
8:30 - 12:30: Developing Effective Environmental Education Programs
12:30 - 1:30: Educator Network Lunch (provided)
1:30 - 5:30: Building Capacity through Community Engagement
Developing Effective Environmental Education Programs
The first half of the workshop will be implementing & training on the newly revised Environmental Education Programs: Guidelines for Excellence (2022). These Guidelines offer a set of recommendations for developing and administering high quality environmental education programs. They provide a tool that can be used to ensure a firm foundation for new programs or to facilitate improvements in existing ones. In this workshop, you will be introduced to the environmental education program development cycle, including needs assessment (front-end evaluation), program design and delivery, and evaluation.
Through this workshop you will:
- Identify the key characteristics of high-quality environmental education programs.
- Discuss the relationship among program design, implementation, and evaluation.
- Each participant will be provided a full copy of the Environmental Education Programs: Guidelines for Excellence
Building Capacity through Community Engagement
The second half of the workshop will be implementing & training on the NAAEE Community Engagement: Guidelines for Excellence.This set of guidelines outlines steps for creating more inclusive working environments that support social equity, effective partnerships and coalitions, and long-term change. We know that we can have a greater impact in our work by engaging with diverse communities, but that might be easier said than done. - Become familiar with Community Engagement Guidelines and how they can be used to improve the quality of EE practice.
- Identify tools for fostering community engagement strategies at your home organizations/contexts.
- Participate actively and have opportunities to network with other participants.
- Each participant will be provided a full copy of the Community Engagement: Guidelines for Excellence
